Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu opened in 1847, and has played host to major opera performances, ballets and concerts for in excess of 175 years. And it is the city’s traditional opera house, nestled right on La Rambla, which is the most well-known street in the city. Inside it feels like you have walked into another time - the auditorium is resplendent in red and gold, the seats are plush velvet, and the chandeliers sublime. It is one of the most famous opera houses in all of Europe and a significant aspect of Catalonia’s cultural life.
